Nut and seed you say? yeap you are right... i incorporated sunflowers seed into my brownies along with almonds..crunchy and healthy ( sort of... :). Most of the times sunflowers seed are found in granola bars and power bars and also tossed in salad. Somebody recently gave me a bag of hulled sunflowers seed, which i promptly toasted in the oven for few minutes and kept in airtight bottle. You can only snack on these for so much and I have to find other ways to use them before they go to waste. Since I was making brownies, I decided to tossed them in too. For these recipe it makes a small quantity , double the recipe and bake in 9x13 pan. This should give you a moist and not too sweet chocolate brownies.
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar (use less if you like)
1/2 cup self raising floor
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/3 cup almond sliver (toasted for 5 minutes)
1/3 cup sunflower seed (toasted for 5 minutes)
1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees celcius. Lined 8x8 inch baking pan and greased.
2. Melt the butter on the stove or microwaved it. Combined melted butter with sugar and eggs and give a brisk whisk. Combined flour and cocoa and stir into butter mixture. Mixed in the vanilla essence. lastly stir the almond and sunflower seed.
3. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges are firm. Do not overbake or you will end up with a tad dry brownies (like mine hahahaha).
